Jeff R. Hawkins

Jeff R. Hawkins is Vice President of Hawkins Law PC, where he practices primarily in the areas of estate and business planning, trust and estate administration, and elder law. He received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in 1988 and his law degree from the University of Louisville’s Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 1992.

The Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) has engaged Jeff actively since 1993. His Board of Governors membership spans 1997-98, and 2006-10. He was elected Chair of the Probate, Trust, and Real Property Section and the House of Delegates for 2009-10. He chaired the Professional Legal Education and Admission to the Bar Section (PLEADS) in its inaugural year, 2000-01 and the Young Lawyers Section 1997-98. Jeff is also a member of the Business Law Section; Solo, Small Firm & General Practice; Agricultural Law; and Elder Law Sections. He has participated on the Clients Assistance Fund; Long-range Planning; Budget; Annual Meeting Planning; and Attorney Surrogate Rule Committees.

The Indiana State Bar Association’s Trust & Estate Specialty Board certified Jeff as a Board Certified Indiana Trust & Estate Lawyer in 2007, elected him as a Board member in 2009, and elected him Co-Chairman in 2010.

Jeff is a member of American Bar Association Sections on Business Law, and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law; the Fellows of the Indiana Bar Foundation; the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (and its Indiana Chapter); and the Sullivan County Bar Association.

Several organizations (ISBA, Indianapolis Bar Association (IBA), Stock Yards Bank, etc.) have sought Jeff’s contributions as an author and faculty member to teach legal subject to lawyers to satisfy their continuing legal education requirements. The Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF) has engaged Jeff on its Board of Directors (1998-99) and as a frequent faculty member in its continuing legal education courses. A training program for nursing home administrators in Cloverdale, Indiana, employs Jeff annually to teach courses on health care consent and Medicaid for the elderly.

Jeff leads the firm’s estate planning, elder law, business, and municipal law practice. Several charitable organizations and public agencies engage Jeff as corporate counsel, including the City of Jasonville in Greene County; Open Arms Christian Ministries, Inc.; Sullivan Wrestling Club Inc; Westside Church of Christ Inc; Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Inc.; Bloomfield Church of Christ Inc; Worthington Assembly of God, Inc.; Lyons Assembly of God, Inc.; Eastside Church of Christ of Terre Haute, Inc.; Owensville First Christian Church Inc; Shakamak Medical Center Inc; Sullivan County Youth Sports Inc; and the Turman Township Trustee in Sullivan County.
